Hi everyone,
Here is an update from the month of March!
Quarantine, quarantine, and more quarantine. That pretty much sums up my month here in Montebelluna. We have officially been in house quarantine going on four weeks tomorrow. Fortunately we have been able to keep the Bible School going over here. This semester we have six students (2 guys & 4 girls). We are doing al of our classes online.
This semester I am teaching Mission & Evangelism on Friday afternoons. The class lasts for three and half hours so we are able to cover a lot of material. We have mainly been focusing on the life and ministry of Jesus. Last week we started looking at the ministry of Paul. It has been a blessing to have something to look forward to throughout the week. I spend most of my time preparing for that class and hanging out with the guys here at the house. We have played this strategy board game called “Settlers of Catan” twenty six times over the past four weeks.
Other than that a lot of my ministry has been consisting of phone calls and text messages. I have been trying to use this time to pour into the College Group a bit differently. Mainly focused on reaching them individually and encouraging them in the word and praying with them. I miss gathering with them very much. But I can see the Lord turning this horrible situation into good.
As far as the pandemic goes we are very blessed the groceries stores have always been full with food. We are especially fortunate to have a supermarket right across the street from our house. So I am able to get out of the house at least once a day to get food. However Italy as a country has suffered tremendously. In March alone we experienced over ten thousand deaths from the Covid-19. Lots of people are scared for their jobs here because the economy wasn’t all that great to begin with and this will certainly cripple it. The difficult part is the impact this will have on tourism in Italy. It makes up 13% of the overall economy in Italy. Last year in Italy tourism reach over 237 billion euros.
The government has extended the lockdown until April 13. Thankfully the number of cases and people dying each day is decreasing. I think the target date for us to get things somewhat back to normal is the first of May.
